The start
When the lights went out, Gasly made a strong start and held the lead, followed by Russell. Hamilton attempted to pass Leclerc around the outside at Turn 1, where the two made contact and the #44 was sent onto the gravel, dropping to ninth. In the following laps, Russell attacked Gasly and moved into the lead, while Verstappen passed Leclerc at Ascari. The Monegasque then came under a double attack, with Piastri overtaking him shortly before Parabolica. Moments later, Leclerc lost control of his SF-26 and crashed heavily into the barriers at Parabolica, bringing out the red flag.
