Biography of F1 driver Antonelli Andrea Kimi

Andrea Kimi Antonelli was born on 25 August 2006 in Bologna and is considered one of the most precocious and complete prospects to emerge from the European motorsport academy system in recent years. A second-generation racer - his father Marco was a driver and team manager - he grew up in an environment strongly linked to racing, starting competitive activity in karting at a very young age.

His karting career was immediate and filled with success at national and international level. Between 2018 and 2021 Antonelli won Italian, European and world titles in the main CIK-FIA categories, standing out for consistency of performance, adaptability and race management. In 2019 he officially joined the Mercedes junior programme, a move that marked a decisive acceleration in his career.

His single-seater debut came in 2022, directly in Formula 4, with a season that certified his talent. With Prema he dominated both the Italian F4 Championship and the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, winning both series in the same year, a rare achievement for a rookie. The numbers describe a driver capable of combining pure speed with great technical maturity.

In 2023 he made a double step up, simultaneously tackling Formula Regional Europe and Formula Regional Middle East. Even in this context Antonelli stood out for a methodical approach and the ability to grow throughout the year, eventually winning the European series title with Prema, confirming the solidity of the Mercedes project built around him.

The 2024 season marked a countertrend but strategic choice: a direct move to Formula 2, bypassing Formula 3. The impact was initially complex, but the path was built for the long term, with the aim of refining tyre management, race reading and teamwork. Over the year constant progress, podiums and victories arrived, consolidating his position as a natural Formula 1 candidate.

In 2025 he officially debuted in Formula 1 with Mercedes, becoming one of the youngest drivers ever to start a World Championship. The season represented a high-level learning year, approached with an extremely disciplined profile, far from excessive proclamations, but with a clear focus on technical development and collaboration with the team.

Among the curiosities, Antonelli chose to retain the double name “Andrea Kimi” from the beginning of his career, a distinctive element that accompanies him in all categories. He is known in the paddock for attention to detail in simulator work and for a clean driving style, particularly effective in race management phases.

In 2026 Andrea Kimi Antonelli will continue his Formula 1 commitment with Mercedes, within a project built for the medium to long term and strongly oriented towards driver development.

The number he will race with will be 12, bringing back to the grid the number of the timeless Ayrton Senna.
