Biography of F1 driver Piastri Oscar

www.oscarpiastri.com

Oscar Piastri (Melbourne, April 6, 2001) is an Australian racing driver. He has Italian ancestry, as one of his great-great-grandfathers, Giovanni Attilio Piastri, moved to Australia from Licciana Nardi, in the province of Massa and Carrara. He began racing karts in 2011, competing in championships since 2014. He won several local karting competitions, and in 2016 he made his debut in Europe, racing with the Dragon team to run in the Formula 4 UAE championship, where he placed eighth.

In 2017 he was then noticed by Arden International, Christian Horner's team, with which he made his debut in the British Formula 4 Championship, finishing second in the drivers' standings, with six races won and fifteen podiums, as well as six Pole Positions. In 2018, again with Arden, Piastri made his debut in Formula Renault Eurocup finishing eighth overall, collecting three podiums, one at Spa and two at the Nürburgring. At the same time he participates in a few races, as a wild card, in the Formula Renault NEC, without ever scoring points. In 2019 he switched to the R-ace GP team, with which he won the category.

In January 2020 his move to Formula 3 with Prema Racing is announced, along with Frederik Vesti and Logan Sargeant as teammates. At his debut race in the category at the Red Bull Ring he wins in heavy rain, ahead of teammate Sargeant. He also manages to score points in the next three races also on the Austrian circuit, while in Hungary he takes second place in both races, behind Pourchaire and Beckmann. He also goes on the podium in Race 1 at Silverstone finishing again in second position behind Lawson. Returns to victory in Race 2 at Barcelona preceding compatriot Alex Peroni across the line. He collects his last podium of the season in Race 1 at Monza where he finishes third, while in Race 2 he retires keeping the Drivers' Championship open. A seventh place in Race 2 at Mugello is enough to become Formula 3 Champion, ending the season with 164 points.

On December 1, 2020, Prema Racing formalizes the Australian's move to Formula 2 for the 2021 season with Robert Švarcman as his teammate, where he will be crowned F2 World Rookie Champion with two races to spare. He is also awarded the Anthoine Hubert prize, given to the best rookie of the season in the category. In early 2020, Renault makes it official that Piastri will join the Renault Sport Academy. In October 2020, he participates in his first test in a Formula 1 car at the Bahrain International Circuit.

At the end of the 2021 season, he takes part in rookie tests at the Yas Marina Circuit in the Alpine A521. On Nov. 16, he is announced as Alpine's third driver for the 2022 season; in this very season, the French team makes Piastri official as its official driver for the 2023 season, replacing two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. However, the announcement is denied a few hours later by the Australian himself via his social profiles. In fact, it is discovered that he is in strong contact with McLaren to occupy the seat of compatriot Daniel Ricciardo; the case is brought before the FIA's Commission for the Recognition of Contracts, which on September 2, 2022 validates as the only valid contract the one that binds the Australian driver with the McLaren team.

Currently, he has won with the Papaya team 2 victories, 10 podiums and 3 fastest laps; his race number is 81.
