Second victory in three races for Scuderia Ferrari, the 250° in its history. For fans, this should be great news. In part it is, but there are shortcomings that prevent the team from sleeping soundly. If we only watched the Barcelona GP and the British GP the situation would not be bad at all for Hamilton, Leclerc and Maranello. Unfortunately, however, there was also Spielberg, and it was an event that cannot be overlooked.
The Red Bull Ring date went badly in many ways. It was said several times that the powertrain was unable to perform at its best due to the altitude at which the circuit is located, but this was not the worst problem, it concerned the configuration and tires.
Ferrari does not know the strengths and weaknesses of its package
And when the trouble seems to be over, you realize it's just begun. Ferrari did not understand the potential of the SF-26, it does not know its strengths or weaknesses. What Charles Leclerc said after the race is alarming. The team had no sandbags. If Austria needed an in-depth analysis because the car's overall performance was below expectations, by the Monegasque himself's admission, the British GP will need an in-depth analysis because, on the contrary, overall performance was below expectations.
Events thus become Russian roulette
Obviously this is a limitation. Lack of technical understanding is an obstacle for Ferrari. A barrier that now appears very high, but which, if we want to aim to constantly compete for podiums and victories, must be broken down and overcome. How do you do it? It takes time, method and determination.
Unfortunately, until the situation changes, there is no point in deluding ourselves. Between now and the end of the year there may be more weekends like Silverstone and Barcelona, but there may also be others like Austria. Until technicians really understand what to expect from a specific layout and certain environmental conditions, every event will be like Russian roulette where we could witness any kind of scenario.
