The team, after the excellent results of 2024, has obviously chosen the path of continuity. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will continue to be the team's drivers, and in the coming season it seems that there will be no hierarchy between the two, at least as long as the standings do not lean decidedly to one side or the other.
The MCL38, has certainly benefited from the expertise of Rob Marshall, formerly of Red Bull, who contributed to the development of the car even before its official entry in 2024, and the 2025 project will also be a natural evolution of the World Champion single-seater, built around the upgrades made in the second half of the season on the brand new bottom introduced in Miami and which represented a significant breakthrough in performance.
The team's goal is to repeat and do better, putting the two drivers in a position to fight for the Drivers' Championship.
At London's O2 Arena on Feb. 18, the team unveiled the livery of the new single-seater in the presence of CEO Zak Brown of general manager Andrea Stella, and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
McLaren is a British Formula 1 racing team based in Woking. Since 2018 it has been entered in the Formula 1 World Championship under the name McLaren F1 Team. It also currently owns a majority stake in the Arrow McLaren SP team in the IndyCar Series.
Founded on September 2, 1963 by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren (1937-1970), it made its debut in 1966 and is, along with Williams, one of the most prestigious British teams in the top formula still in operation.
The team is part of the McLaren Group, a holding company that also includes the companies McLaren Automotive which manufactures the road cars, McLaren Electronic Systems which makes the electronic components, also supplied to other houses in the World Rally Championship, as well as the MES ECU with which McLaren won the contract for mandatory supply for all F1 teams, then there is McLaren Applied Technologies which provides technical consultancy, McLaren Marketing and Absolute Taste. The ownership of the group is divided as follows: 25 percent belongs to Mansour Ojjeh, while the remaining 75 percent is held by Bahrain investment company Mumtalakat Holding, which has been present in McLaren's capital since 2007.
McLaren is one of the most successful racing teams in Formula 1 championship history, with 8 constructors' titles, and 12 overall titles won by its drivers Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen and Lewis Hamilton.
In the past, McLaren cars have raced in other motorsports categories, completely dominating the CanAm Championship between 1967 and 1972 with five consecutive drivers' titles, taking three wins at the Indianapolis 500 in the 1970s, and winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.
McLaren is therefore to date the only team in the world, besides Mercedes, to have achieved at least one victory in each of the three most prestigious motorsport competitions (Formula 1 championship, Indianapolis 500, and 24 Hours of Le Mans).
Through its Applied Technologies division, it is also active on other fronts, including experimenting with software to optimize air traffic at Heathrow and reduce aircraft landing and takeoff delays.
Since 2011, it has resumed car-making activities, producing the 12C in coupe and convertible versions and the P1 supercar. In 2011, 400 cars were produced while in 2012 1586 cars were produced.
