18Biography of F1 driver Stroll Lance
Lance Stroll (Montréal, October 29, 1998) is a Canadian racing driver and the son of Canadian billionaire entrepreneur Lawrence Stroll and Belgian fashion designer Claire-Anne Callens. He debuted in karting at age ten, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2008 and Driver of the Year in 2009 by the Fedération Sport Automobile du Quebec.
In 2014 he made his debut in single-seaters, participating first in the Florida Winter Series and then in Italian Formula 4 under the colors of Prema Powerteam, with which he made his four races, seven podiums, four poles and three fastest laps, hoisting himself to the top of the standings.
In 2015 he joined the Ferrari Driver Academy. Earlier that year Stroll won the Formula Toyota championship, a series based in New Zealand. He then took part in the European F3 Championship, again with Prema, taking a win and fifth place overall. Remaining in F3 again in 2016, the Canadian won the championship outright, grabbing fourteen wins in thirty races and 507 points against the 320 of his nearest rival, Maximilian Günther.
On the eve of the first free practice of the 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he was chosen by Williams F1 as a test driver, thus leaving the FDA. On November 3, 2016, Williams F1 announced that Stroll had been hired as the starting driver for the 2017 season; from the 2019 to 2020 season he was part of the Racing Ponit, where he achieved his first pole position and two podiums. Since 2021 he has been part of the Aston Martin team; he races with the number 18.
