We've reached the fourth appointment of the column ‘Beware the gap’. Thanks to the videos we have made for you, we are able to keep track of the performances with which the cars and drivers performed during this first part of the qualifying season. The Miami GP represents the fourth event of the world championship. A GP who has been arriving from Japan for over a month and therefore allows us to carry out appropriate analyses.
From what you'll see in the videos below, we can see a marked improvement over Red Bull (the team that has made the most progress), Ferrari and McLaren compared to Mercedes. The upgrade packages introduced in Florida brought numerous benefits to the three teams. However, there is an off-key and unencouraging note for the grill.
While aerodynamic/chassis upgrades allowed for a great approach to the W17, Mercedes not only remains in advantageous condition, but is likely to increase it in Canada when it brings its true upgrade package to the paddock.
Ferrari expected to be able to close the gap better and knew they had not been able to close it: it was a kind of cold shower. McLaren managed to win the Sprint with Norris and secure a one-two with Piastri, a sign of their excellent potential. According to team principal Andrea Stella and his team, the best is yet to come. In fact, the second phase of the scheduled upgrade will come to Montreal, with which Woking's team believes it will go a step further.
Ferrari's hopes of recovery are reserved for the ADUO. Meanwhile, in the rear, we must note another big step forward. Alpine, now able to establish itself as the fifth force in the group.
