How to reach the circuit, where to park, how to secure the last remaining tickets and, more generally, how to make the most of the entire weekend. But beyond the usual events, there is one unique, unmissable moment for those attending the Italian GP in person, and not everyone knows how to be part of it. The Temple of Speed is renowned for its traditional post-race track invasion, culminating in the celebrations beneath the podium.
It has become customary for thousands of spectators to flood the start-finish straight and experience the prize-giving ceremony and all the post-GP celebrations directly beneath the suspended podium. For those wishing to take part in the track invasion again this year, we at Formula1.it would like to briefly explain where it will be possible to access the circuit.
First and foremost, it is important to stress that, for safety reasons, the track invasion is strictly regulated by the Autodromo. Access to the track is therefore not unrestricted: it will be permitted only through designated gates around the circuit, which will be opened only once the final single-seater has left the track and returned to the pit lane.
The main access points to the start-finish straight are divided according to the different areas of the circuit.
First Chicane / Straight area
Grandstands 6, 8, 26 and 27 - Gate between Grandstands 8 and 7 – Straight: this is one of the gates closest to the podium and provides quick access to the main straight. The gates are opened shortly after the final car has passed, allowing spectators to head towards the podium.
Gate between Grandstands 6A and 6C - First Chicane: this is the most natural access point for those watching the race from the First Chicane area. Once on track, it will be possible to walk along the straight for around 300-400 metres to reach the podium area.
Parabolica / Vedano area
Grandstands 21, 22, 23 and Internal Lawn - Internal Parabolica / Curva Alboreto gate – 21C: this is the main access point for spectators in the inside area of Parabolica. Once opened, it allows direct access to the main straight and the route towards the podium.
Lawn / Circolare area
In this area, the organisers and marshals may open additional secondary gates along the fencing by the straight, with the aim of distributing the large influx of spectators as safely as possible.
It is important to reiterate that access to the track will be possible only after authorisation from the organisers and marshals. Fans must therefore follow the instructions of staff on site and must not attempt to cross the barriers independently or enter the circuit before the gates are opened.
If you want to be among the first onto the track as soon as the gates open, the advice is to position yourself in front of the gates well in advance. Indeed, from midway through the race, the first fans begin forming, not always orderly, queues nearby, ready to enter the track at the end of the Grand Prix.
Once through the gates, we recommend picking up your pace and staying as close to the centre of the straight as possible, to avoid getting caught in the crowd, usually busy collecting "souvenirs" at the trackside, and to reach the podium area above the pit lane more quickly.
After the prize-giving ceremony, many drivers also usually head towards the fences separating the pit lane from the main straight to greet the fans, take selfies and share the final moments of the weekend with them.
In short, if you have decided to experience the track invasion, enjoy every single moment of the post-race celebrations: it is one of the most distinctive and evocative moments of the entire Monza weekend.
