Biography of F1 driver Di Resta Paul

Paul di Resta (born on 16 April 1986 in Uphall, West Lothian, Scotland) is a British racing driver of Italian origin and sports commentator, known for his career in Formula 1 and other motorsport categories. Raised in Bathgate, Scotland, in a racing-oriented family also connected to his cousins Dario and Marino Franchitti, di Resta began his motorsport journey at a very young age.

Di Resta’s career started in karting in 1994, where he competed until 2002, winning among other titles the British JICA Championship in 2001. After a season in the British Formula Renault Winter Series, he moved into the main British Formula Renault Championship from 2003, achieving strong results. In 2005 he stepped up to the F3 Euro Series with Manor Motorsport and in 2006 won the European title against high-profile rivals including Sebastian Vettel, also claiming the prestigious BP Ultimate Masters at Zandvoort. In 2007 di Resta switched to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) with Mercedes, showing constant progress until 2010 when he won the DTM title with three victories, seven podiums and numerous pole positions. This success brought him closer to Formula 1. In 2010 he began his Formula 1 involvement as test and reserve driver for Force India, taking part in several free practice sessions. In 2011 he made his official Formula 1 debut with Force India at the Australian Grand Prix and remained a race driver until 2013. Over these three seasons he contested 59 Grands Prix, scoring 121 career points and achieving a best result of fourth place, without securing victories or podiums.

After failing to secure a seat for the 2014 Formula 1 season, di Resta returned to the DTM with Mercedes until 2019, achieving further notable results including third overall in 2018. Alongside this, he held reserve roles in Formula 1: in 2016 and 2017 with Williams, including a single race start at the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix replacing Felipe Massa, and more recently as a reserve for McLaren in the 2020-2022 seasons. In recent years di Resta has also expanded his career into endurance racing. Competing with United Autosports and later with Peugeot in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), he achieved significant class victories, including the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans win in LMP2. In addition to racing, di Resta became a familiar face as a Formula 1 commentator and analyst for Sky Sports F1, bringing his experience to television audiences before refocusing on endurance competition. In his private life Paul di Resta lives in Monaco with his wife Laura Jordan, whom he married in 2014, and their two children. A supporter of Celtic Football Club, he maintains strong ties to his Scottish family and his racing roots.
