Karun Chandhok was born on 19 January 1984 in Chennai, India, into a family historically linked to Indian motorsport. After karting, he built his education in the European formulae, competing in Formula 3, Formula Renault and Formula 3000, without however finding sustained top-level continuity.

His Formula 1 debut came in 2010 with HRT, one of the new teams of the era. The season was contested under extremely difficult technical conditions, with an uncompetitive and unreliable car. In 2011 he took part in three Grands Prix with Lotus, stepping in as a race driver for some events in the first part of the season.

After his Formula 1 experience, Chandhok turned his career towards other categories, competing in Formula E during the championship’s early seasons and in endurance racing, including appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In parallel he embarked on a media career, becoming one of the most recognisable television commentators and analysts in Formula 1, a role that has kept him closely involved in the international paddock.
