Lucas Tucci di Grassi was born on 11 August 1984 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is a Brazilian racing driver of Italian descent. He began his career in karting at a young age before progressing to single-seaters and later establishing himself internationally across multiple championships.

Di Grassi developed through the European feeder series, competing in Formula Renault 2.0, South American Formula 3 and the Formula 3 Euro Series, achieving wins and strong results, including victory at the Macau Grand Prix.

He then progressed to the GP2 Series, finishing runner-up in the championship in 2007.

In 2010 di Grassi competed in Formula 1 as a race driver for Virgin Racing, starting 19 Grands Prix during the World Championship season. He did not score points but completed several races.

He subsequently expanded his racing profile into endurance competition, driving for Audi in the World Endurance Championship and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieving podiums and strong results between 2012 and 2016.

It was in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship that di Grassi reached the peak of his international recognition: he was among the first drivers to join the electric series from its inaugural 2014-15 season and won the 2016-17 drivers’ title, becoming one of the category’s historic protagonists.

Throughout his Formula E career he raced for teams including Audi Sport ABT, Venturi, Mahindra and later ABT, now Lola Yamaha ABT.

Beyond his on-track career, di Grassi has been involved in technological and sustainability projects linked to electric motorsport. In his private life he is married and lives in Monaco.
