Kazuki Nakajima (born on 11 January 1985 in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, Japan) is a former Japanese racing driver, known for his Formula 1 career in the second half of the 2000s and, above all, for his major successes in endurance racing with Toyota.
The son of former Formula 1 driver Satoru Nakajima, Kazuki grew up in an environment deeply connected to motorsport. After starting in karting, he continued his development in Japan, standing out in the junior categories. In 2005 he debuted in Formula Nippon and Japanese Formula 3, and in 2006 he won the Japanese Formula 3 Championship with TOM’S.
In 2007 he was called up to Formula 1 by Williams, initially as a reserve driver, before making his race debut at the Brazilian Grand Prix in place of Alexander Wurz. From 2008 to 2009 he contested two full seasons with Williams, achieving a best result of sixth place at the 2009 Australian Grand Prix. His Formula 1 career ended at the conclusion of that season.
After leaving Formula 1, Nakajima returned fully to the Toyota programme, racing in Super Formula and Super GT, while beginning the endurance path that would define the most successful part of his career. From 2012 he became a key driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing in the World Endurance Championship, contributing to the LMP1 and later Hypercar programmes.
In the WEC he achieved outstanding results, winning the World Endurance Championship multiple times and claiming the 24 Hours of Le Mans three consecutive times (2018, 2019 and 2020). He was also recognised as a highly valued development driver for his technical feedback.
At the end of the 2022 season he announced his retirement from racing and subsequently joined the management structure of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe.
Off the track, Nakajima is known for his reserved profile and for the continuity of his relationship with Toyota.
