Biography of F1 driver Ide Yuji

Website: www.yuji-ide.com

Yuji Ide (born on 21 January 1975 in Saitama, Japan) is a former Japanese racing driver, known for a very brief and controversial Formula 1 experience in 2006.

After a long career in junior formulae and Japanese motorsport, Ide competed mainly in Formula Nippon and Super GT, achieving solid results without outright headline successes. In 2001 he won the Japanese Formula Dream championship, the highest point of his career prior to his move to Europe.

In 2006 he made his Formula 1 debut with Super Aguri, backed by Japanese sponsors. He competed in four Grands Prix (Australia, Malaysia, Bahrain and San Marino), but struggled significantly to adapt to Formula 1 machinery. After an incident with Christijan Albers at Imola and performances deemed insufficient, the FIA revoked his super licence, bringing his Formula 1 career to an end.

After leaving the Circus, Ide returned to racing in Japan in minor categories and GT competitions before gradually stepping away from top-level competition. The 2006 episode remains one of the most debated cases in modern Formula 1 history regarding driver eligibility and preparation standards.
