Biography of F1 driver Rosberg Nico

Nico Rosberg (born on 27 June 1985 in Wiesbaden, Germany) is a former German racing driver and Formula 1 World Champion in 2016. Son of 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg, he grew up between Monaco and Germany, developing a strong technical and sporting background that quickly carried him to the top of the junior categories.

After starting in European karting, Rosberg moved into single-seaters in the early 2000s. In 2002 he competed in Formula BMW ADAC with Team VIVA Racing, dominating the season with nine wins from ten races and securing the title, which opened the door to top-level junior programmes. In 2003 he joined the Formula 3 Euro Series with Team Rosberg, achieving wins and regular points, while in 2004 he completed his most competitive season in the category, finishing fourth overall.

The real breakthrough came in 2005, when he competed in the newly created GP2 Series with ART Grand Prix. In a highly competitive season, Rosberg won the championship at the final race, becoming the first GP2 champion in history. This success earned him a direct entry into Formula 1 as a race driver.

His Formula 1 debut came in 2006 with Williams-Cosworth. On debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix he impressed by setting the fastest lap of the race, becoming at the time the youngest driver to do so. He remained with Williams until 2009, scoring several podiums and establishing himself as one of the most solid young drivers, despite a car rarely capable of fighting for wins.

In 2010 he moved to Mercedes GP, the team’s official return as a constructor in Formula 1. After the initial building years, from 2014 he found himself at the heart of the dominant hybrid era. Alongside Lewis Hamilton an intense internal rivalry developed, defining the 2014-2016 period. Rosberg scored his first victories in 2012, but it was between 2014 and 2016 that he became a central figure, winning a total of 23 Grands Prix, 30 pole positions and 57 podiums.

The 2016 season represented the pinnacle: Rosberg won the World Championship after a tight duel with Hamilton, decided only at the final race in Abu Dhabi. Just days after securing the title, he announced his surprise retirement from Formula 1, explaining that he had achieved his ultimate career goal and wished to devote more time to his family.

After retiring, Rosberg has remained active in motorsport and the automotive world as an entrepreneur, investor and television commentator. He has been involved in initiatives related to sustainable mobility, Formula E and technology-driven innovation projects, alongside a stable role as an analyst at international events and in the media.

On a personal level, he lives in Monaco with his wife Vivian and their daughters. Multilingual and holding a degree in aeronautical engineering, Rosberg is also known for the methodical and analytical approach that characterised his entire career, culminating in one of the fastest and most surprising retirements ever by a Formula 1 World Champion.
