Marques T.

Biography of F1 driver Marques Tarso

Tarso Marques (born on 19 January 1976 in Curitiba, Brazil) is a former Brazilian racing driver who competed in the Formula 1 World Championship across three seasons (1996, 1997 and 2001), all with Minardi, before continuing a long racing and professional career in Brazil.

After starting in karting, Marques moved into single-seaters in his home country and quickly made his mark, achieving notable results in Brazilian Formula Chevrolet. He then continued his path in South America and Europe, eventually reaching Formula 3000, a category in which he achieved results that earned him a Minardi test and subsequently a place in Formula 1.

His Formula 1 debut came in 1996 with Minardi, driving in-season with an uncompetitive car in the typical technical and financial context of backmarker teams of the era. In 1997 he returned to the World Championship with Minardi for the final part of the season, achieving his best career finish in a race classified in the top ten but outside the points positions (which at the time were awarded only to the top six).

The third and final chapter of his Formula 1 career came in 2001, again with Minardi. Marques partnered debutant Fernando Alonso and took part in the early part of the season before being replaced mid-year. His overall Formula 1 record stands at 24 Grands Prix contested (26 entries), without scoring World Championship points.

After leaving Formula 1, Marques returned permanently to Brazil and continued racing in various national series, with a prolonged presence in Stock Car Brasil. In parallel, he developed a public profile outside the cockpit, linked to media projects and initiatives in the automotive sector.

Regarding activities beyond racing, he is involved as an entrepreneur and automotive figure through TMC (Tarso Marques Concept), a company focused on customisation and tailor-made projects. In broader motorsport terms, his name has also been associated with the promotion of the Mantiqueira Speedway Club, an initiative publicly presented in 2024.
