Biography of F1 driver Mazepin Nikita

Nikita Mazepin (born on 2 March 1999 in Moscow, Russia) is a Russian racing driver who competed in Formula 1 in 2021 with Haas, following a path through the junior categories that culminated in top-level results in GP3 and Formula 2.

After his first experiences in karting, Mazepin moved to single-seaters in 2015, gaining experience between Formula Renault 2.0 (NEC/Eurocup) and other developmental series. In the following two years he raced in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, gaining experience in a highly competitive environment. The breakthrough came in 2018: in GP3 with ART Grand Prix he achieved four victories and finished second in the championship, a result that firmly projected him among the most closely followed names of the junior scene.

In 2019 he made his debut in Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix: a complex season, useful mainly for adapting to the category. In 2020 he moved to Hitech Grand Prix and improved significantly: he achieved two victories and other podiums, finishing 5th in the final standings (164 points). In parallel he carried out testing activities: he tested Force India cars between 2016 and 2018 and also went on track with Mercedes in 2019, progressively entering the F1 environment.

His entry into the World Championship materialised at the end of 2020, when Haas announced him for the 2021 season with a multi-year agreement. Mazepin thus debuted in Formula 1 in 2021 with the American team (VF-21 chassis), alongside Mick Schumacher: he contested the entire championship without scoring world championship points, in a difficult season for the team from a performance standpoint.

His F1 chapter came to an abrupt end at the beginning of 2022: Haas announced the termination “with immediate effect” of both the driver’s contract and the partnership with Uralkali. From that moment Mazepin remained outside the championship and focused his activity on programmes alternative to single-seaters.

In subsequent seasons he returned to the track mainly in the world of sports prototypes. His participation in the Asian Le Mans Series with 99 Racing is documented, with a notable victory at Sepang in the 2023-24 season (sharing the car with Ahmad Al Harthy and Louis Deletraz), a result that highlights a concrete move towards endurance racing. He is also listed in the entry list for the Michelin 24H Dubai 2025 (GTX category) with Graff Racing driving a Rossa LM GT.

As regards extra-sporting matters, in March 2024 the General Court of the European Union ruled that Nikita Mazepin should be removed from the EU sanctions list, in a decision linked to the inclusion criteria and the fact that he was no longer a Haas F1 driver.

Son of entrepreneur Dmitry Mazepin, Nikita has long been associated in the media with the financial and project support typical of junior programmes.
