Biography of F1 driver Gasly Pierre

www.pierregasly.com

Pierre Gasly (born 7 February 1996 in Rouen) is a French racing driver. He started racing with karts in 2006, when he finished 15th in the French Minimal Championship, before finishing 4th the following year. In 2008 he moved to the French Cadet Championship, before moving on to the international scene in 2009. He moved to the KF3 category, remaining there until the end of 2010 when he finished 2nd in the European CIK-FIA championship.

In 2011, Gasly made his debut in the single-seater class, racing in the 1.6 litre French Formula 4. He finished third behind his future Eurocup rival Matthieu Vaxivière and Andrea Pizzitola, with seven podiums, including the victories of Spa-Francorchamps, Albi and Le Castellet. He then moved to Formula Renault 2.0 in 2012, driving for R-Ace GP. He finished 10th with six points, including podiums at Spa and the Nürburgring. He also competed in six races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup with the same team, finishing on the podium at the Nürburgring.

In 2013, he moved to Tech 1 Racing. He won five podiums including victories in Moscow, the Hungaroring and Le Castellet. He came with 11 points ahead of Oliver Rowland in the final round in Barcelona and eventually won the title after two finishes at 3rd and 6th; the last results came after a collision with Rowland, who consequently received a drive-through penalty. He entered the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2014, where he was hired by Arden as part of the Red Bull Junior Team, the team’s young driver programme. He made his GP2 Series debut in 2014 at Monza, in support of the Italian Grand Prix, replacing fellow Caterham driver Tom Dillmann, who had concurrent commitments and could not participate in GP2 races that weekend.

On November 27, 2016 during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he was crowned world champion of GP2 Series 2016. In 2016-2017 he participated as a replacement driver at the E-Prix in New York aboard a Spark-Renault Z.E. 16 of the Renault-E.dams team, scoring points in both race one and two. He closes the season in 16th place with eighteen points.

He made his Formula 1 debut on 17 May 2016, during the Toro Rosso STR11 season test. He debuts in a Formula 1 race at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, replacing Daniil Kvyat until the end of the season; he will stay there for two years, then make his debut at Red Bull in 2019, where he will be replaced during the season by Alexander Albon; The Frenchman, therefore, is relegated to Toro Rosso with which he will remain tied until the 2022 season. With the team from Faenza he won a magical victory in the GP of Monza in 2020.

Since the 2023 season he is an Alpine driver, with whom he has currently won two podiums; his number in the race is 10.
