Biography of F1 driver Rossi Alexander

Alexander Rossi (born on 25 September 1991 in Nevada City, California) is an American racing driver who combined a brief spell in Formula 1 with a highly successful career in the United States, particularly in IndyCar.

After progressing through karting and junior single-seaters, Rossi moved to Europe at a young age to pursue an international professional career. In 2008 he won the Formula BMW World Final, before continuing his development in Formula Renault and other feeder series, eventually reaching the FIA junior ladder. In the GP2 Series he achieved race victories and strong results, establishing a reputation as a fast and competitive driver.

His entry into the Formula 1 environment came through development and reserve roles, before making his race debut in 2015. He competed with Manor Marussia in five Grands Prix during the latter part of the season, with a best result of 12th at the United States Grand Prix. During this period he raced with the personal number 53, which became a recurring element of his sporting identity.

Unable to secure a full-time F1 seat, Rossi returned to the United States and from 2016 established himself in IndyCar. In his rookie season he achieved the most famous victory of his career by winning the 2016 Indianapolis 500, becoming the first rookie to do so since 2001, thanks to strategic fuel management in the closing stages. With Andretti Autosport he collected wins and podiums, finishing second in the 2018 championship and third in 2019, and remaining a consistent front-runner with a total of eight IndyCar victories.

As his career progressed, Rossi expanded his experience to other disciplines, including endurance racing, while maintaining IndyCar as his main focus. From 2025 he races with Ed Carpenter Racing (car number 20), under a multi-year agreement that, according to available official communications, extends his programme beyond 2025 and into the 2026 timeframe.

Based in the United States, he is known for a highly technical approach to working with engineers and teams, with detailed preparation and strong attention to race strategy.
