90Andre Lotterer (born on 19 November 1981 in Duisburg, Germany) is a highly experienced and successful German racing driver, best known for his long career in endurance racing and his contributions to factory programmes with manufacturers such as Audi and Porsche.
The son of a German-Peruvian father and a Belgian mother, Lotterer grew up between Duisburg and Nivelles (Belgium), beginning his motorsport career in karting before progressing to junior single-seaters. Early success included victories and titles in feeder categories such as the Formula BMW ADAC, which he won in 1998 and 1999.
After working as a test driver for the Jaguar Formula 1 team in the early 2000s without securing a permanent race seat, Lotterer moved to Japan. There he competed in high-level championships including Formula Nippon/Super Formula and Super GT, winning GT500 titles with Toyota in 2006 and 2009 and the Super Formula championship in 2011.
Lotterer’s career became inseparably linked with endurance racing. He made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009 and, with the factory Audi Sport Team Joest, claimed three overall victories at Le Mans in 2011, 2012 and 2014, often alongside Marcel Fassler and Benoit Treluyer.
In the FIA World Endurance Championship, Lotterer achieved further success, winning the drivers’ title with Audi in 2012 and returning to championship-winning form in 2024 with Porsche Penske Motorsport.
In addition to endurance racing, Lotterer also made a brief appearance in Formula 1: in 2014 he contested a single Grand Prix with Caterham F1 Team at the Belgian Grand Prix, replacing Kamui Kobayashi, but retired after one lap due to technical issues.
From 2017 to 2023 he also competed in Formula E, racing for teams including DS Techeetah, Porsche and Avalanche Andretti, achieving multiple podium finishes and demonstrating his versatility with electric single-seaters.
Throughout his career, Lotterer has shown exceptional adaptability across different cars and disciplines, building a record of success in endurance racing, GT competition and single-seaters. He remains active in endurance racing and other high-level motorsport programmes.
Outside racing, Lotterer maintains a strong interest in the technical and historical aspects of motorsport, and enjoys activities such as cycling, photography and driving classic cars.
