Biography of F1 driver Magnussen Kevin

Website: www.kevinmagnussen.com

Kevin Magnussen (born on 5 October 1992 in Roskilde, Denmark) is a Danish racing driver whose career has spanned top-level single-seaters and endurance racing, following a non-linear path but remaining consistently connected to elite motorsport.

The son of former Formula 1 driver Jan Magnussen, Kevin grew up immersed in racing. After karting, he emerged in the European feeder categories: in 2009 he won the Danish Formula Ford championship, while in 2010 he claimed the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC title. His major breakthrough came in 2013, when he dominated the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with DAMS, earning a direct route to Formula 1.

His Formula 1 debut came in 2014 with McLaren. On his very first start, at the Australian Grand Prix, Magnussen finished an impressive second, becoming the first Danish driver to stand on a Formula 1 podium. Although he achieved further points finishes, he lost his race seat at the end of the season, remaining within the team as a reserve driver.

After a period away from the grid, Magnussen returned full-time to Formula 1 in 2016 with Renault, before forging a long association with Haas. He raced for the American team from 2017 to 2020, enjoying his strongest season in 2018 with ninth place in the Drivers’ Championship and contributing to the best Constructors’ result in the team’s history. His relationship with Haas resumed for the 2022-2024 period following his surprise return after Nikita Mazepin’s departure.

During his second stint with Haas, Magnussen achieved one of the most significant results of his career by securing pole position at the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, the first in Formula 1 for the team. Subsequent seasons proved more challenging, and at the end of 2024 his Formula 1 career came to a definitive close.

Alongside single-seaters, Magnussen has built growing experience in endurance racing. After early appearances in IMSA and long-distance events, from 2025 he officially joined the BMW M Motorsport programme as a driver of the BMW M Hybrid V8. According to available official communications, he is committed with BMW in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA, with his programme confirmed also for the 2026 season.

Off the track, Magnussen maintains a reserved personal profile. He is married with children and divides his time between racing commitments and family life in Denmark, while remaining closely connected to the international paddock as a factory endurance driver.
