Franco Colapinto was born on 27 May 2003 in Pilar, Buenos Aires Province (Argentina). Raised in a family deeply linked to motorsport, he took his first steps in karting in South America, standing out from a very young age for controlled aggression and adaptability to different technical contexts.
After his karting debut, he entered European single-seaters in 2019 in Spanish Formula 4 with Drivex, a season in which he achieved victories and notable results that quickly brought him to international attention. In 2020 he competed in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, finishing second overall, an experience that proved fundamental in refining competitive maturity and versatility on circuits and conditions very different from those in Europe.
In 2021 he tackled the Formula Regional European Championship with MP Motorsport, securing wins and podiums that consolidated his profile in the junior formulas. The following year he moved to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing, achieving a victory and several solid results in a learning season. In 2023 he continued in FIA Formula 3 with MP Motorsport, becoming one of the championship protagonists thanks to constant growth in race management and consistency of performance.
The year 2024 marked the move to Formula 2, again with MP Motorsport. In an extremely competitive category, Colapinto demonstrated progression and solidity, attracting the interest of Formula 1 teams. In the same year he made his debut in the top category with Williams, being called to race in the final part of the season: a debut that returned an Argentine driver to the Formula 1 grid after more than twenty years.
2025 represented a turning point. At the start of the season he officially joined Alpine as a test and reserve driver, included in a structured evaluation and development pathway. From the eighth round of the championship, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, he was promoted to race driver, taking part regularly in races and working within a technical context aimed both at immediate performance and preparation for the new regulatory era. Over the course of the season he stood out for operational composure and the ability to provide useful feedback for car development.
Among the curiosities, Colapinto is considered one of the most promising Argentine drivers of his generation and is supported by a very large following in South America. He is appreciated in the paddock for his methodical approach to working with engineers and for physical preparation, elements that facilitated his rapid integration into Formula 1.
An identity element of his career is the helmet number 43, used since his junior formula years and retained in Formula 1. The choice is linked to family history: 43 was the number used by his father, Anbal Colapinto, in Argentine national competitions. Franco adopted it as a personal and symbolic reference, considering it a direct link to his origins and to the path that led him from South American karting to the top category.
In 2026 Franco Colapinto will contest the Formula 1 season as an Alpine race driver, continuing his path in the top category within a medium- to long-term technical project.
