Mexican GP

Circuit

Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

Historical information

The current circuit hosted all fifteen editions of the Mexican Grand Prix valid for the Formula 1 World Championship between 1963 and 1992. Until 1972 its name was Magdalena Mixucha, then it was named in memory of the two Mexican Rodríguez drivers, Ricardo and Pedro. Ricardo lost his life during the first Grand Prix held on 1 November 1962, which was not valid as a world championship round.

After a long removal from the top category, the circuit returned to the Formula 1 World Championship calendar from 2015, after various modernisations and improvements. For two seasons, 2017 and 2018, it was the venue where Lewis Hamilton became world champion for the fourth and fifth time in his career, respectively.

In the history of the Grand Prix, similar events have occurred several times: in 1964 John Surtees won the world championship there at the wheel of a Ferrari, as did Denny Hulme in 1967 and Graham Hill in 1968 in a Lotus. In addition, Richie Ginther and Honda in 1965, and Gerhard Berger and Benetton in 1986, won their first world championship victories. In 1992 Michael Schumacher achieved the first podium of his career.
