Belgian GP

Historical information

One of the most fascinating stages present in the Formula One World Championship was always held on the Spa circuit, remembered for its unusual gun-shaped shape, and its great length. Despite being highly appreciated by drivers for the characteristics the circuit possesses, it has nevertheless been the protagonist of dramatic events such as the one that took place in the 2019 Formula 2 season, costing the life of Anthoine Hubert. In that same edition, Charles Leclerc won his first career victory.

The overall circuit record is 1'41"252 set by Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes in qualifying for the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix.

The Belgian stage is also the F1 debut stage of one of the most beloved drivers in F1 history - Michael Schumacher, in 1991. The German driver would win many editions and was the protagonist right in Belgium of an avoided brawl between him and Coulthard in 1998 due to an accident that cost the Ferrari driver the championship victory.

Besides Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen is also considered one of the best performers on the Belgian circuit, thanks to his four victories and as many excellent performances.

The 2021 edition, on the other hand, saw heavy rain and race direction as the protagonist of the race: after two race suspensions and two respective restarts, only two laps were run on a Safety Car regime, so that the GP could be considered at least half done. In fact, the points were halved and it was the first race in which the starting order remained unchanged with the finishing order.
