By: Max Verstappen’s contract extension with Red Bull has certainly been a major talking point, particularly because of the salary agreed with the team, which is thought to be between 90 and 100 million a year until the 2030 season. Naturally, there has been no shortage of comment, including on social media.
The four-time world champion is not particularly comfortable in the car and, despite the team’s progress, a victory has yet to come in 2026. So why extend with Red Bull? Many have said it is for the money, but there may in fact be another major reason.
A far from secondary reason
Money obviously plays its part, but it is not everything. Verstappen loves racing, but above all he likes the freedom to do so. Crucially, Red Bull has always accommodated him, allowing him to try other categories and compete in other championships.
Speaking during the Dutch GP, the Dutchman appears keen to continue doing so: “For me, it is a very important aspect, although naturally it will depend above all on how the F1 calendar is structured. Basically, I like all the major endurance races. The 24 Hours races, for example. It would be fantastic to be able to take part in one of these races in 2027”, reports ‘GPBlog.com’.
Red Bull accommodates Max’s wishes
Verstappen has no intention of limiting his racing activities to F1 alone, and Red Bull is offering its full support. It is certainly the perfect arrangement for him to continue doing what he loves most.
