Biography of F1 driver Hulkenberg Nico

www.nicohulkenberg.net

Nicolas Hülkenberg, aka Nico (born 19 August 1987 in Emmerich am Rhein), is a German racing driver. He started racing karts in 1997, at the age of ten. In 2002 he won the national German youth karting title, winning the overall championship the following season.

In 2005, after another season in the German kart championship, he made his debut in the German Formula BMW, winning the championship on his first attempt. In the same year he also won the world final of the Formula BMW championship, which gathers all the best drivers of the various national championships, but was relegated to third place for having maintained a bad behavior behind the Safety Car. In 2006 he moved to Formula 3, winning a race in the German championship.

He then competed in the 2006-2007 season of the A1 Grand Prix championship in the ranks of the German team; he won nine times, leading his team to the final victory in the championship. In 2007 he moved to the European Formula 3 Championship with the ASM team, winner of the two previous championships with Lewis Hamilton and Paul di Resta. He won four races (at the Norisring, Zandvoort, Nürburgring and Circuit Paul Armagnac in France) and third place in the championship; he also participated in the Formula 3 Masters race, winning it.

At the end of the season, Williams offered him the chance to test a Formula 1 car. The young German showed good speed on his debut, so much so that the English team signed him as test driver for 2008, Role in which he was also confirmed for 2009. In 2008, in parallel with this position, the German continued to race in F3 Euro Series, this time winning the championship; he also took part in the GP2 Asia Series championship, finishing sixth despite having participated only four races out of twelve.

In 2009 he raced for the ART team in the GP2 championship. In the double race of the Nürburgring he won both the long race and the sprint; other victories came in the long race of Hungary and the sprint of Valencia. These victories and several placements led him to the championship victory, beating rival Vitalij Petrov and equaling Lewis Hamilton with the title win in the first year in category.

After two seasons as a test driver, in early November 2009 Williams promoted him to the starting driver, hiring him alongside expert Rubens Barrichello for the 2010 season. In the following seasons he was part of teams like Force India, again Force India and Renault, then became third driver for Racing Point, Aston Martin and Mercedes. The German returns to start with Haas from 2023; from 2025 he will be part of the Sauber team, which from 2026 will be Audi; his race number is 27. He is currently the driver who has run more valid races for the F1 World Championship without ever getting on a podium.
