Biography of F1 driver Doornbos Robert

Robert Doornbos (born on 23 September 1981 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a former Dutch racing driver, known for a brief Formula 1 career in the mid-2000s and for a subsequent career developed mainly in North American racing.

After starting in karting, Doornbos moved into European single-seaters in the early 2000s, competing in Formula Opel, British Formula 3 and later Formula 3000, a category in which he achieved solid results that opened the doors to the Formula 1 paddock.

His Formula 1 debut came in 2005 with Minardi, contesting the final three races of the season. The following year he entered the Red Bull programme as third driver and was fielded in races at the end of the 2006 championship, replacing Christian Klien for the final three Grands Prix. In total he competed in 11 Grands Prix, without scoring championship points.

After leaving Formula 1, Doornbos continued his career in the United States, becoming a leading figure in Champ Car, achieving victories and finishing third overall in the 2007 championship. He later also raced in IndyCar and other international categories before gradually retiring from competition.

After retiring from racing, Robert Doornbos pursued a career as a television commentator and analyst, remaining closely involved in the world of motorsport.
