Biography of F1 driver Bortoleto Gabriel

Website: www.gabrielbortoleto.com.br

Gabriel Bortoleto was born on 14 October 2004 in Osasco, São Paulo (Brazil). Raised in a family environment closely connected to motorsport, he began his racing career in karting, quickly standing out both nationally and internationally for his driving precision and adaptability.

After his formative years in karting, Bortoleto made his single-seater debut in 2020, competing in Italian Formula 4 and ADAC Formula 4. The results came progressively, with podium finishes and victories allowing him to build a solid foundation ahead of his move into higher categories. In 2021, he continued his journey through the junior formulas, confirming steady growth in terms of maturity and race management.

The real breakthrough came in 2023, when he entered the FIA Formula 3 Championship driving for Trident. In his rookie season, he immediately delivered high-level performances, establishing himself as one of the leading contenders in the championship. Thanks to a combination of consistency, speed and strong race awareness, he won the FIA Formula 3 title, becoming the first Brazilian driver to achieve the feat in the history of the category.

In 2024, he moved up to Formula 2, still supported by the McLaren Driver Development Programme, continuing to achieve notable results and proving competitive in the category immediately below Formula 1. Victories, podium finishes and consistently strong performances established him as one of the most closely watched drivers in the paddock, thanks to his clean driving style and highly structured approach to working with the team.

During his development, he officially joined McLaren’s young driver programme, a move that confirmed both his technical ability and long-term potential. Bortoleto is particularly appreciated for his ability to maximise results even during difficult weekends, as well as for his remarkable consistency over longer races.

Among the more interesting aspects of his approach is his meticulous attention to physical and mental preparation, along with an extremely methodical attitude towards simulator sessions. These elements have played a significant role in his rapid learning process as he progressed through the higher categories. Winning the FIA Formula 3 title as a rookie remains one of the most significant achievements of his junior career.

Away from the track, he maintains a very discreet profile and remains strongly connected to Brazil, despite living permanently in Europe to pursue his racing commitments. In 2026, Gabriel Bortoleto is expected to remain a leading figure in international motorsport within the McLaren orbit, with the stated goal of continuing to build his path towards Formula 1.

Bortoleto would have liked to race with number 12, in memory of his idol, the legendary Ayrton Senna. However, he will use number 5, previously used by Sebastian Vettel. The number 5 has been particularly symbolic in Formula 1 history: apart from number 1, it is the number with which the greatest number of World Champions have raced.
