Biography of F1 driver Gasly Pierre

Website www.pierregasly.com

Pierre Gasly was born on 7 February 1996 in Rouen (France). Raised in a family connected to motorsport, he began his career in karting at a very early age, building step by step a path characterised by rapid learning and strong technical discipline.

The move to single-seaters takes place in the early years of the previous decade. In 2013 he wins the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps title with the Tech 1 Racing team, while in 2014 he competes in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, finishing second overall in the championship. In 2016 comes his breakthrough in the junior formulas with victory in the GP2 Series championship at the wheel of the Prema Racing car, thanks to a season of absolute consistency of performance.

In 2017 he combines his GP2 commitment with an experience in Japanese Super Formula with Team Mugen, finishing the championship as runner-up. In the same year he makes his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso, taking part in the final rounds of the season. From 2018 he becomes a full-time race driver, showing progressive growth in race management and in working with the team.

The year 2019 represents a key passage in his career: promoted to Red Bull Racing at the start of the season, he faces a complex phase that leads to a return to Toro Rosso mid-season. In the final part of the year, however, he secures a historic victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, bringing the Faenza-based team back to the top step of the podium and delivering one of the most significant moments of recent Formula 1 history.

In 2020, driving for AlphaTauri, he takes victory at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, making the most of an atypical race and confirming remarkable operational composure. The following seasons see him as a constant midfield protagonist, with a podium at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and numerous points finishes despite the team’s technical difficulties.

From 2023 he moves to Alpine, taking on a central role in the French team’s sporting project. In his first season with the team he secures a podium at the Dutch Grand Prix, helping to relaunch the competitiveness and credibility of the project. Over the following two years he continues development work in a context strongly oriented towards preparation for the new regulatory era.

Among the curiosities, Gasly is known for his meticulous attention to physical preparation and for a very direct approach to working with engineers. He is one of the few drivers of the modern grid to have won Formula 1 races with two different teams not belonging to the historic top teams, a fact that highlights a remarkable ability to maximise results.

A distinctive element of his sporting identity is the helmet number 10, chosen from his junior years and retained in Formula 1. Gasly has always associated it with a personal and symbolic reference, linked to French sporting tradition and to the concept of leadership responsibility on track, turning it over time into a recognisable sign of his competitive career.

Off the track he maintains a reserved profile, while remaining very active on themes linked to sport and French culture. In 2026 Pierre Gasly will contest the Formula 1 season with Alpine, continuing his role as a race driver within the French team’s project in the new regulatory cycle.
