Jack Doohan (born on 20 January 2003 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) is an Australian racing driver raised between karting and single-seaters in Europe, who entered the Alpine environment through the team’s junior programme and went on to contest Grands Prix in Formula 1 between the end of 2024 and the first part of 2025.
After his karting years, Doohan trained in the junior formulas: in 2018 he debuted in British Formula 4 and also accumulated experience in other F4 championships. In 2019 he stood out in Asian F3, a championship in which he finished runner-up (a result he also repeated in the 2019-2020 edition). In 2020 he arrived in FIA Formula 3, a category in which in 2021 he was a protagonist with Trident, finishing the championship in second place and achieving multiple victories.
The move to Formula 2 came in 2021 (with selected races) and then full-time from 2022: over three seasons in F2 he collected wins and podiums, remaining consistently among the most competitive drivers in the category. In parallel he joined the Alpine Academy and carried out continuous simulator and track activity as a support driver for the team.
His race debut in Formula 1 came at the end of 2024, when Alpine fielded him at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in place of Esteban Ocon. In 2025 Doohan started the season as a full-time Alpine race driver alongside Pierre Gasly, thus becoming one of the five rookies on the grid; he raced with number 7, previously used by world champion Kimi Raikkonen, contesting the opening rounds of the championship without managing to score points.
In May 2025 Alpine then announced a seat rotation and promoted Franco Colapinto as race driver starting from Imola, moving Doohan into the role of reserve driver (first choice) for that period. During the second part of 2025, the situation consolidated in favour of Colapinto.
For 2026 Alpine officially confirmed its line-up composed of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto: consequently, there is no full-time F1 seat for Doohan in 2026. The last verified role therefore remains that of a driver linked to Alpine in 2025, within the context of the reserve role following the mid-season replacement.
Son of five-time 500cc (MotoGP) world champion Mick Doohan, Jack maintains a profile strongly focused on physical preparation and technical work: his career has been built mainly through results in FIA series and development activity with Alpine, between simulator, tests and official track appearances.
