Biography of F1 driver Gene Marc

Website: www.marcgene.com

Marc Gené (born on 29 March 1974 in Sabadell, Spain) is a former Spanish racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s, combining his racing career with a long-term role as a test driver and brand representative in motorsport.

Developed within the European junior formula system, Gené built his credibility through a solid and progressive career. After karting, he moved into single-seaters and reached a key milestone in 1998 by winning the Euro Open by Nissan (Open Fortuna by Nissan), a result that opened the door to the World Championship.

His Formula 1 debut came in 1999 with Minardi, the team with which he competed in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. In a challenging technical environment, he gained experience and stood out particularly in 1999, when he finished sixth at the European Grand Prix, scoring points under the system in place at the time, which rewarded the top six finishers.

After his stint with the Faenza-based team, Gené remained involved in Formula 1 as a support driver and, when the opportunity arose, returned to racing with Williams. In 2003 he competed in the Italian Grand Prix, finishing fifth at Monza (2003), the best result of his Formula 1 career. In 2004 he contested two further Grands Prix (France and Great Britain) with Williams, completing his final appearances as a race driver.

Alongside his Formula 1 activities, his career expanded into endurance racing. Among the most significant highlights was victory at the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans, a success that further strengthened his international profile beyond Formula 1 and firmly established him among the reference drivers in major endurance classics of that era.

After concluding his Formula 1 racing career, Gené remained active in the sport as a Ferrari brand ambassador and television figure. According to official information available at the end of 2025, he continues to work as a Sky commentator and as a representative of the Ferrari brand in initiatives linked to the motorsport world. Regarding specific paddock roles for 2026, no clear public confirmation has emerged beyond these ongoing ambassadorial and media activities.
