Biography of F1 driver Aitken Jack

Jack Aitken

Jack Aitken was born on 23 September 1995 in Seoul (South Korea), to a British father and a Korean mother. Raised competitively in Europe, he began his path in karting before moving into the junior formulas, showing from his first seasons solid consistency of performance and a remarkable ability to adapt to different technical contexts.

The move to single-seaters came successfully through the Renault categories: in 2015 he won the Formula Renault Eurocup title with the Koiranen GP team, establishing himself as one of the most interesting prospects of his generation. In the following years he continued his international path in Formula 3 and then in the GP3 Series, where in 2017 he finished second overall with ART Grand Prix, collecting victories and regular points finishes.

In 2018 he moved to Formula 2, a category in which he remained for several seasons. The high point came in 2019, when he finished the championship as runner-up with Campos Racing, behind Nyck de Vries, standing out for technical maturity and race management ability. At the same time he entered the Williams orbit as a development and reserve driver, a role that allowed him to work consistently within a Formula 1 team.

The world championship opportunity came at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, when Aitken officially debuted in Formula 1 driving for Williams, called to replace George Russell. In a complex weekend, faced on an unusual circuit and with very little preparation, he brought the car to the finish, achieving a result considered solid in the context of a difficult season for the team.

After concluding his direct experience in F1, Aitken oriented his career towards GT and endurance motorsport. In the DTM he competed in several seasons with Ferrari, achieving victories and podiums and confirming his versatility at the wheel of cars completely different from single-seaters. He subsequently stabilised in endurance racing, becoming a regular presence in North American championships.

In recent years he has been engaged in IMSA and endurance programmes with Lexus GT3 cars, alternating sprint and long-distance races, including the classics of the calendar. A path that has led him to build a solid and continuous career in the international panorama of closed-wheel racing.

Curiosity: Aitken is one of the few drivers to have raced in Formula 1 officially representing the British flag despite being born in Asia, and he speaks several languages fluently thanks to a multicultural educational background. In 2026 he continues his commitment in endurance motorsport, with official programmes in North American GT series.
