Suzuka is 50 minutes from Nagoya, and 110 from Osaka. Osaka and Nagoya are the nearest international airports. Nagoya Komaki is 67.8 km from the circuit, and Osaka Kansai is 163 km away. By Kintetsu Express train from Nagoya Station to Suzuka Shiroko 40 minutes and from Osaka Namba to Suzuka Shiroko 110 (plus the 30-minute transfer from the airport to the station).
Built by Honda for testing its cars, it first appeared on the World Championship calendar in 1987. It stretches 5.807 kilometers and has 18 corners some of which, such as Spoon, 130R and the uphill combination between turns 2 and 7, are among the most famous on the World Championship calendar.
Less well known are the two Degner turns, named after Ernest Degner, a German motorcycle racer of the 1950s and 1960s.
It has a unique layout in the shape of an “8”; from a technical point of view, it enhances the aerodynamic efficiency of single-seaters. Finally, the track has several elevation differences and offers fast sectors alternating with difficult ones where mistakes must be somewhat limited.
