Historical information

It is a modern complex created specifically for Formula 1. Since it was included in the world championship calendar in 1986, the Hungarian Grand Prix has always been held on the Budapest circuit.

The first to win on this circuit was Nelson Piquet, after getting the better of Ayrton Senna in a complicated overtaking move.

Another race is remembered as full of twists and turns: the one in 1989, which saw Mansell start twelfth and then finish on the top step of the podium.

In 2006, on the other hand, a race particularly enlivened by rain saw Jenson Button take home his first career victory.

The 2009 Grand Prix, on the other hand, is remembered as the stage of fear because of the accident of Felipe Massa, who, at the wheel of the Ferrari, was struck in the helmet by a spring lost from the Brawn GP by Rubens Barrichello during qualifying, impacting with the wall of protections in Turn 4. The Brazilian lost consciousness and was rescued by circuit doctors; his recovery and time away from racing lasted a long time. He returned to the track the following season.

The most successful team on this track is McLaren, with eleven wins, but it is Ferrari that has scored the most points on the Hungarian stage, an impressive 442.

Red Bull, on the other hand, has claimed four triumphs: the last two editions were won by Max Verstappen, while the past ones by Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber. Max Verstappen's two victories also include the broken trophy following the podium celebrations. Lando Norris, in fact, in order to do his usual sparkling wine jubilation, gave the podium too hard a blow. It was the winner's trophy that got the worst of it.

Esteban Ocon scored his first career victory in 2021, while the most successful driver is Lewis Hamilton with eight wins. At the Hungaroring, the seven-time world champion also holds the record for pole positions, nine.
