Daniil Vyacheslavovich Kvyat (born on 26 April 1994 in Ufa, Russia) is a Russian racing driver who competed in multiple seasons of the Formula 1 World Championship, with much of his career linked to the Red Bull junior programme and the Faenza-based teams.
After starting in karting in Russia and Europe, Kvyat moved permanently into Western single-seater championships in the early 2010s. In 2012 he raced in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and Formula Renault Alps, achieving strong results, while in 2013 he won the GP3 Series title with MW Arden, establishing himself as one of Red Bull’s most promising young drivers.
The GP3 success earned him a Formula 1 debut in 2014 with Toro Rosso. He scored 8 points in his rookie season, showing speed and consistency against teammate Jean-Eric Vergne. His performances led to promotion to Red Bull Racing for 2015.
The 2015 season marked the peak of his Formula 1 career: Kvyat secured two podium finishes (Hungary and China) and ended the year seventh in the Drivers’ Championship, contributing to Red Bull’s fourth place in the Constructors’ standings. His podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix made him the first Russian driver to finish on a Formula 1 podium.
In 2016, after a difficult start to the season, he was demoted back to Toro Rosso, with his Red Bull seat handed to Max Verstappen. He completed the year with the Faenza team, achieving a best result of ninth place at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Kvyat remained at Toro Rosso in 2017 but lost his seat mid-season. After a period away from the grid, he returned to the Red Bull programme and raced again in 2019 with Toro Rosso, scoring a notable third place at the German Grand Prix in wet conditions. In 2020 he competed with AlphaTauri, recording a best finish of fourth at Imola, before leaving the Formula 1 grid permanently.
After Formula 1, Kvyat focused on endurance racing and development roles. In 2021 and 2022 he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class with the Glickenhaus project, including participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In parallel, he was recruited by Ferrari as a simulator and development driver, supporting the Formula 1 team at Maranello.
Off the track, Kvyat is fluent in several languages, including Russian, English and Italian, developed during his long stay in European championships. He is also known for his interest in physical training and cycling.
