Jaime Victor Alguersuari Escudero was born on 23 March 1990 in Barcelona, Spain. A second-generation racer, he grew up in an environment deeply connected to motorsport and embarked on a structured competitive path from a very young age, supported by the Red Bull junior programme.
After his karting beginnings, he stood out in the European junior categories. In 2008 he won the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with Epsilon Euskadi, becoming the youngest champion in the history of the category. At the same time, he also competed in the British Formula 3 Championship, gaining further experience on top-level circuits.
In 2009 he made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards, becoming at the time the youngest driver ever to start a Formula 1 race. He raced for the Faenza team during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, achieving a best result of seventh place and contributing consistently to the team’s points tally during a phase of technical growth.
At the end of 2011 he left Formula 1 and, after a brief transitional period, decided to end his single-seater racing career prematurely. His early exit from the sport remains one of the most unusual cases of the modern era, given his young age and the experience already gained at the top level.
After retiring from competition, Alguersuari pursued a completely different path, dedicating himself to electronic music as a DJ and producer under the pseudonym Squire, alongside entrepreneurial initiatives and a continued interest in athlete wellbeing. Although far from the track, he remains a frequently cited figure when discussing prematurely ended Formula 1 careers.
