Sebastien Olivier Bourdais was born on 28 February 1979 in Le Mans, France. After progressing through the European junior formulae, he built the most significant part of his career overseas, becoming one of the most dominant drivers in the history of American open-wheel racing.
Between 2004 and 2007 he won four consecutive Champ Car titles with Newman/Haas Racing, establishing himself as the category’s benchmark through a combination of speed, consistency and technical precision.
His move to Formula 1 came in 2008 with Toro Rosso, where he remained until mid-2009. His F1 experience unfolded in a difficult context, with limited results and without the opportunity to replicate the dominance shown in the United States.
After Formula 1, Bourdais returned to IndyCar and endurance racing, achieving prestigious victories and establishing himself in long-distance events, including class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He remains a reference figure for his versatility across single-seaters and sports prototypes.
