Geographical Information

The Principality of Monaco is located in the south of France, on the French Riviera, bordering Italy. From Nice International Airport you can reach the center of Monte Carlo, easily, by road, train or helicopter.

Historical Information

The first Monte Carlo Grand Prix was held in 1929. In 1950, Monaco hosted the second round of the first World Championship. But it was only after 1955 that the event took on an annual cadence, ever since, always included in the calendar.

The race takes place on a street circuit-the most famous in the world-that runs through the center of Monte Carlo and skirts the sea along the harbor. It is the “richest” and “worldliest” test of the championship. The roads that host the cars are entirely belted with protective barriers, but they are always fascinating, passing through places steeped in history such as the Hôtel de Paris, the Casino, the tunnel, and the waterfront.

For drivers, it is a challenging race, where overtaking is very difficult and the margin for error is tiny. Despite the circuit's inadequacy for the power of modern Formula One cars, the Monaco Grand Prix continues to be held, considered perhaps more as a social event than a sporting event. A unique feature of the event, until 2022, was to have the first practice session held on Thursday, instead of Friday, as is the case for other races.

The unforgettable Ayrton Senna holds the record for victories: six, including five consecutive from 1989 to 1993. After him, with five wins, is Graham Hill.
